The ECO DSF (device for sustainable fishing) was developed to be the most sustainable buoy on the market. Equipped with solar panels, it does not need batteries, instead using solar energy, thus making it completely lead-free. We also decreased the amount of plastic used in the design of this DSF and, where possible, used recycled plastics to further reduce its environmental footprint.

Drawing on insights into tuna behaviour, the DSF ECO was designed to maximise the information provided at sunrise, which is a key moment in tropical tuna fishing. Equipped with the latest Simrad technology, this DSF offers a new feature: the Sunrise Report, which provides accurate and detailed information on the movement of biomass under the DSF, allowing more informed decisions than ever before.

    A must for decision-making, it allows easy viewing of biomass movement under the DSF during key tuna fishing hours. During the two hours around sunrise, the buoy takes soundings every minute and creates a graph to report what is happening under the DSF.

    New! The DSF ECO’s new motion sensor now sends information to easily identify situations such as the eventual sinking or recovery of a buoy. Tilt and shock warnings, as well as status messages, help to know the status of the DSF in detail, at any time. (Optional feature)

    With different setting modes, it optimally matches fish behaviour and the conditions of the ocean where it is to be deployed. The Sunrise Mode consists of three immediate measurements: one hour before sunrise, at sunrise and one hour after sunrise. Alarm Mode sends up to three alarms during daylight hours, when the DSF identifies biomass increases.

    SIMRAD ES16 Echo sounder

    The most advanced technology in its field. By using the ‘chirp’ pulse, it distinguishes plankton and other interferences much more accurately, giving much more precise estimates. In addition, its more efficient energy management means that the DSF can sound more frequently and send a greater amount of information.
